knows it. And that was exposed in the Farbstein race, where she beat Farbstein but when she ran against the Republican in a district where the Democrats should get about 80 or 90%, she got only 55% of the vote in the general election. The guy that she ran against is this broadcaster, Barry Farber, and he made that the issue -- quite correctly. Now, whenever I march in parades -- a Salute to Israel, support of Soviet Jewry, opposition to the UN -- Bella is always there. Invariably she will be booed by about half the crowd, and half the crowd will support her. It's incredible. And she knows it, and therefore she works very hard to try to recover on that particular score, but she never will because I know her for what she is, and so do the people who are conversant with this subject. Okay.

So they were very upset with my position and they opposed me. Fortunately, there wasn't anything they could do about it. But they did not want me to be the nominee, and they never supported me. That's Bella. I'm talking about 1968 when I ran and won.

At that time also she was holding meetings. I can't even remember: there was one up at Hunter where she had been supporting the front group -- the major front group, the 5th Avenue Peace Parade group, I can't even remember the name. It's a Commie operation in my judgment, and I want to make it clear: I use the word “Commie” very loosely. But it describes for me the
