'63? Oh, we never charged that Passannante... The thing that's missing there is that after I lost the Assembly race and I became the president of the VID, I brought Passannante into the VID. So he didn't support DeSapio in '63.
I read that in this book.
What does it say?
We're now talking about Jane Kramer's book, Washington Square, and in her chapter, “Will Reform Spoil Tammany Hall?” she does make reference to Passannante managing a DeSapio campaign.
But that book was written about the '62 Assembly race, and we're talking now about '63. So it could very well be that Passannante was active in DeSapio's '61 campaign, '59 campaign and earlier. She's not talking about the '63 campaign for district leader, is she? I haven't read the book in a long time, but my recollection is that that chapter was written in 1962 when I ran for the Assembly. I remember her interviewing me. She interviewed me in my law office in 1962.
Yes, she makes reference to her interview.
If she has reference to Passannante's and DeSapio's campaign, it was not in the '63 district leadership. It would have to be prior to that.
