Did you speak on the subject?

Lasker:

No, no. I was interested as a volunteer worker, and I was a friend of hers and, I think, really she's one of the greatest living women in any part of the world. She's had more influence, she's more dedicated, she's more on fire--or was more on fire; she's quite ill now--in this crusade than any one, or any woman I've ever seen. She certainly has made a major contribution toward bringing a major problem, probably the major problem, to the attention of the leaders of the world. She certainly had great influence in Japan and in the United States, and throughout the world her influence sparked activities everywhere. You can't see anything that's happening that in some way wasn't influenced by her.

Lasker:

The seeds were sown by her efforts and by people who grouped around her.

I was interested in health insurance because I saw people who worked for me unable to pay and, indeed, my own ex-husband being unable to pay, for the medical care they really needed.

I was still interested in art, paintings especially. I was then only moderately interested in politics and knew very
