To get Nixon's support.

Q:

Is Dominick an effective person?

Lasker:

Dominick is an old fashioned conservative.

Q:

He's from Colorado?

Lasker:

From Colorado and you know, not any use for anything, but he was the ranking Republican after javits so they gave it to him. He'd been totally against the bill when Nixon was against the bill. Then when Nixon was for the bill he was willing to change.

Q:

This is a remarkable thing, that a whole group flocked over.

Lasker:

All the Republicans -- except for Javits who was for it to begin with. This is about the second cause of death of the people of the Western world.

Q:

Well, avits has always had a different point of view anyway.

Lasker:

Yes, but you'd think that they would get a little bit more open minded when one in four of us is going to have the disease and one in six of us is going to die of it, under present circumstances.

Q:

This is a giant step forward, isn't it?

Lasker:

Well, I don't know. It depends on what's done now. We'll have to see what's done.

Q:

What's your prognosis for it?
