know anything about medicine. And Denoix, her depuity or her chief medical officer, didn't even know how much money they had for cancer research. I said, “Well, guess how much you think France is spending.” He said oh, he thought maybe about $10 million. So you see, they don't have any high priorities. I said, “Are you doing anything about high blood pressure on a public health basis?” And he said, “Oh, yes.” And I said, “How?” And he said, “Through diet.” (laughs) So you can see that it's going to take a long time to get anything done in France.

Q:

I can believe that. What about the other country that we had some cooperation with, Russia?

Lasher:

Well, the Russians have really not contributed much in the heart. It is said that they've made an artificial heart that's a little bit better than something that had been made here that has been tried on a calf recently. But the don't seem to be any drugs that are better than ours, and they don't seem to be in advance of us in arteriosclerosis. There's a rumor, which is absolutely wild, that they have an adriomyacin which is nontoxic to the heart and can be given by mouth. This may be just a tumor -- I don't know. I haven't any confirmation on that. I'm going to try to get conformation
