We went to visit Genentech with Deeda Blair and Jimmy Fordyce and Dr. Jordan Gutterman -- we went to visit them in March of '80.

This year, and we saw a bottle of pure growth hormone. This was something that Max Geffen and Charlie Allen had supported the research of C. H. Li to make in the late 1960's and early 1970's. Dr. Li thought he had it purified, but this purification was not sufficient to be commercial. Cloning makes growth hormone pure and commerical. It may have many other effects besides allowing children who are unusually small and who have some pituitary defect to grow, but we don't know what it is yet. But it's undoubtedly a very, very important thing to have accomplished.
