The Japanese are very interested in this if. There's another Japanese scientist who's working with Vilcek at NYU called Taniguchi. They're extremely skillful, but they did not imagine any of this. The work was done in the United States on NIH money, NCI money; and they did get some money from the American Cancer Society. I went around and asked these people: “Where did you get the money?” so I know where they got the money from NIH funds which we have worked to get in 20 years.
What about in Japan itself? You said they were doing things, but you didn't know what they were doing.
Yes, well, they're going to make deals with Roche and whoever has something to sell. There's no word in Nature or anything that we've seen that they alone have a clone of immune interferon themselves. If they have, it will be a big surprise. But they will copy it very very fast when we have it, or they'll be licensed, or they'll make some deals with the manufacturers.
Very interesting.
Outside of the United States, the British are the most creative -- original and creative.
And they are making progress in this field.
