at Merck and Ad Cod and see what we can do. I did through friends get Bob Hope to do a TV spot which has been played widely -- I don't know whether you saw it or not.

Q:

I haven't seen it.

Lasker:

And Danny Kaye did a TV spot which has been played widely, and I think that probably we need new spots now. But maybe the message wasn't strong enough, not violent enough. They are famous, but you have to say the words that will drive the people to the doctors. So I'm worried about that aspect of it. But we did get New York State to pass a bill, signed by Governor Carey, for a High Blood Pressure and Heart Institute, which will, they say, get $100,000 for the rest of the year and $2 million in the next fiscal year. We've been trying to do this for the last four years, and at last it's passed the legislature and been made a law. And I should also see the state health officer before I go to Europe.

Q:

Well, that's encouraging in terms of New York State because you've told me in the past about the difficulties.

Lasker:

I could get nowhere.

Q:

It was almost impossible.
