One of them was on the subject of having task forces in various types of cancer, and he used this idea of task force both in the budget, which I think I have a reproduction of, and his message --

Lasker:

Yes, and in his Education and Health Message to Congress, which is here. One thing I'm hoping to get done and which I haven't started on yet is to get wording of the basic law of the National Institutes of Health Act changed, where it will be stated, I hope, that one of the duties of the Directors of the National to plan for treatment and and the elimination of the diseases of the specific . Heretofore just been passing on specific grants and people were studying disease, but there seems to be no dynamic interest on the part of anybody. mainly because the words were left out of the act, that 1 plans to eliminate, treat and control the diseases.
