The upheaval that Mitchel caused, making them look into their social work and charitable institutions, encouraged Keenan to go to the School of Social Work, graduate and learn all he could. He held some small office in the Catholic Charities - secretary or something for a year or two. Then Archbishop Hayes took him as his private secretary. The Holy Father can advise them with regard to their faith and morals, but sure, they know how to run an institution for children. It take a great deal of persuasion and a great deal of appeal to reason and religious loyalty to make them even listen to the Archbishop's new-fangled ideas, even when he got them from Father Keenan.
