one of those things. She didn't like that kind of a thing. She preferred music. She did like smart parties and she accepted invitations to those. That didn't bother Mitchel at all.

I think olive have liked him to utilize his position a little more for getting into a smarter circle of life. She wasn't exactly a social climber, as has been suggested. She had had no particular attention by anybody until she was the wife of the Mayor, but she was agreeable and attractive and people liked her. She would have liked to utilize his high office a little more for social, not climbing, but enjoyment. She just enjoyed it more that was all. She didn't expect to gain anything by it except a little more pleasure and a little more fun. It is kind of grubby going around with politicians unless you happen to enjoy the human race in its many peculiar aspects.

What happened to me after may marriage is what happens to a great many people. Their plans don't particularly change, but the circumstances of their lives modify the way in which they carry out their plans. As a matter of fact, I think I ought to say that I never had any very definite
