them, took off the felt hats they had worn to be comfortable in and stuck them in the boxes. They all had on black cutaways, striped trousers; many of them had spats. It was something! It was a real wedding procession.

We all made our way in one way or another up to the church. For the public officials there were special seats reserved. You were recognized and taken to your seat. Protocol was observed. Everybody came in on the arm of an usher.

We waited almost an hour for the papal benediction. That was where one heard about it. Rumor spread from mouth to mouth that George MacDonald had promised to get it, and where was George MacDonald? The Countess Leary could have done better than this. George MacDonald was blamed, not the Vatican, for the failure of the papal blessing to arrive on time. This was just dirty gossip. Mrs. Warner was there and everyone was wondering how Mrs. Warner felt about this. But Mrs. Warner was by way of being very happy about everything.

Then the bride came in, looking very beautiful, with a magnificent dress on made by B. Altman & Co. It was very handsome, and she was such a handsome and beautiful girl that no amount of overtrimming could have spoiled her, and I don't recall at the moment whether her dress was overtrimmed
