Roosevelt's friendship for him was not a total friendship. Whereas, his was prepared to be a total friendship.

I really can't think of anyone who had a total friendship with Franklin Roosevelt, at least not over any great period of time and I don't think it was total. He revealed a good deal of himself to Louis Howe out of sheer necessity, but I don't think that there was ever the friendship between equals between them. I hate to say it, but I think Louis was always more in the category of a high-grade intellectual servant.
