agreed on it and Davis is having it typed now and they were going to be here tomorrow morning. I've just spoken to Davis. They're coming down to present it to you tomorrow morning.”

He said, “Well, I know all about it.”

I said, “Come on, tell me how you know about it.”

“Well,” he said, “yesterday (Sunday) afternoon Miss Dickerman brought over Mrs. Rosenberg, who was a member of the commission. They came over to see me and spent the afternoon with me. Mrs. Rosenberg knows all about it. She knows everything. She knows the whole story. I guess she did all the work. I guess she did it all. She told me the whole story. She told me how they all behaved. Charlie Hook must be a case.”

Then I said, “Oh.” What else could you say? I saw at once what had happened. I verified this by talking to Miss Dickerman the next time I saw her at the club in New York. Mrs. Rosenberg had made great friends with Miss Dickerman by this time so it had been quite natural for Mrs. Rosenberg to say how lovely it would be to go to the country. Miss Dickerman had said, “Come one up to Hyde Park to my house with me. Spend the weekend. We'd be delighted to have you.” So she had gone straight from the boat to Hyde. Park with Miss Dickerman.
