We arrived out through the Mott Haven--you know, that switching place at Mott Haven. We must have arrived at Hyde Park about nine o'clock in the morning. I was awake and up and had had breakfast and everything by the time we were at Mott Haven, and that must have been pretty early, because I remember observing the switching operations at Mott Haven, where they always switched the President's train over when he was going up there, and sort of registering, “Well-- they won't do this again. This is the last time there'll switch this train.”

As a matter of fact, that was the thing the switchmen said: “We've switched this train so often. We won't do this again.”

There were quantities of people--as many people as were permitted, as could crowd into that area--on the bridges and overheads, there were lots of people. And there had been, all the way up. When you woke up in the night and looked out of the window, there were people on the right of way. And in the stations there were people, and all the way along, a lot of people, all night long. Schools--whole schools-- had come down at four o'clock in the morning to lean over the fence of the right of way, to see the President's train go by.

I remember that--where was that, at West Point? Where was that place? There was a whole band of monks
