About that time, airplanes began to fly over in formation--obviously a salute. I'm not positive of this, but if I'm not mistaken, the military escort consisted of West Point cadets--not too many of them, but a handful of them, which for some reason Mrs. Roosevelt and others had thought would be appropriate because they were near by. Anyhow, there were some West Point cadets there, I know. Whether they were all the military escort there was, I don't remember.

I forget whether we went to the house first. I expect we did go to the house first, and put ourselves in order a little bit. Then we walked over to the place where the grave was already prepared in the rose garden. It had been the rose garden for years, with a very high hedge all around it. I think the President always called it the rose garden, although it may originally have been a kitchen garden, probably was. Anyhow, it had a very high hedge all around it.
