an idea.”

“Oh, well, everybody ought to,” he said seriously. “Everybody ought to. Everybody ought to plan where he's to be buried. Otherwise they'll do the darnedest things to you.”

It was sort of offhand. But that was where he was going to be buried. I think I wasn't the only person to whom he showed it and said that was where he was going to be buried. I think that one or two other people have told me that he showed it to them. It was a well-fixed idea in his mind, and this idea of a white marble stone was also in his mind--that a solid block of white marble was going to be over him, and he wasn't going to have any fuss and feathers on it at all. That was his notion. He had it all schemed out.

His mother was buried over in the churchyard, you know, by St. James's Church in Hyde Park, and that would have been the natural place you would have supposed he would have chosen-- to be buried in the churchyard. But he wanted to be buried right there, and that was that.

When we drew up to it and when we walked over to it, I said to myself, “Isn't it extraordinary--only a few years ago, he told me this was where he was going to be buried, and little did I think I would be here to see it. How suddenly it's come about.”
