MEALAC offers two programs of graduate study, the MA/PhD program and the free-standing MA program.

MA/PhD Program Students admitted to the MA/PhD program complete the requirements for the MA and the MPhil degrees, usually within three years, before proceeding to research and write the PhD dissertation. Applicants who have completed graduate coursework or earned a Master's Degree elsewhere may apply for Advanced Standing after they enter the program.

All students admitted to the MA/PhD program are awarded five years of financial support, including full-tuition fellowships and stipends.

Free-Standing MA Program: Students admitted to the free-standing MA program usually complete the degree in one to two years. The department also considers applications for part-time study in this program.
