The BioStrip
What do we do?
There is a wealth of lecturers on synthetic biology in New York, but are their projects easily digestible through papers, or even lectures? This project would implement a regular series of comics (similar to Sketching Science), that would communicate the systems biology research projects on campus in a visual and modern way. By making projects more eye-catching and bite-sized, we can attract people of all ages and backgrounds, and potentially draw more interested members. This team would reach out to professors / labs (possibly the same ones we arrange to do lectures and interviews with), work with them to draw up their concept ideas, and distribute the finished comics as part of the weekly/biweekly newsletter we are looking to establish. We can also incorporate this into a contest for students in our high school workshops. Visual art is something that is easily absorbed and low-commitment on the part of the audience, and we should take advantage of this in terms of increasing our reach towards the student body.
