Research Symposium

What do we do?

An annual research conference/symposium held at Columbia which brings together students from many different schools to share research ideas and gather feedback from students themselves (perhaps several Columbia professors can also be invited to judge such presentations). The conference will be exclusive to undergraduate students (perhaps this idea can be expanded to add a section for graduate students in the future)—students from all schools are welcomed. The purpose is to make scientific research more of a common activity among undergraduate students rather than graduate students, as is the popular opinion. This conference would encourage students to make novel discoveries and publications as early as during their undergraduate years of college, consequently making them very adept researchers by the time they reach graduate school (should they decide to pursue a PhD of some sort). In the long run, this can help advance scientific breakthroughs and expedite the rate at which such breakthroughs are made—something which the world indubitably benefits from.
