alumni conference set for may 2, 2014

The CSSW Alumni Association will host their annual Alumni Conference on Friday, May 2, 2014. Titled "The Changing Landscape of Social Work", the conference will feature a Keynote Address on the Affordable Care Act by Assistant Professor Heidi Allen, lectures and workshops led by CSSW faculty and alumni, annual school highlights by Dean Jeanette C. Takamura, and the Hall of Fame Ceremony and Reception. Full details and registration will follow shortly.

CONGRATULATIONS TO 2014 HALL OF FAME RECIPIENTS

This year, three CSSW alumni will be inducted into the Alumni Association Hall of Fame at the Annual Hall of Fame Reception on May 2, 2014 at 4:00 p.m. Congratulations to Megan E. McLaughlin '81DSW, Terry M. Mizrahi '66, and Ethel S. Paley '69 for their contributions to the field. We are so proud to have you as alumni.

DSMSocial Work and the DSM-5, with Michael First and Janet Williams

When the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition, abbreviated as DSM-5, was released last year by the American Psychiatric Association, mental health professionals had to get used to a new set of diagnostic criteria for the first time in 19 years. The clinical faculty in the Columbia School of Social Work hosted a day-long conference on the DSM-5 this past December targeted at social workers in the mental health field. More

Lucille N. Austin Lecture Recording Now Available

Jack P. Shonkoff, M.D., Julius B. Richmond FAMRI Professor of Child Health and Development at the Harvard School of Public Health and the Harvard Graduate School of Education, spoke to a full crowd at the School of Social Work on Monday, March 3, 2014 . Dr. Shonkoff discussed advancements in neuroscience and how these developments may be helpful in social work. The lecture, "Driving Science-based Innovation at the Intersection of Social Policy, Practice and Research," can be seen in its entirety here.
