Letter from Schenker to Cotta, dated June 25, 1906 [ not in Schenker’s hand: ] [ in Schenker’s hand: ] Sehr geehrter Herr ! Letter from Schenker to Cotta, dated June 25, 1906 [ not in Schenker’s hand: ] [ in Schenker’s hand: ] Dear Sir, I gratefully acknowledge receipt of the text (through to the end of the main work), and am in process of finishing off correcting the proofs of it. I ask you kindly to send me the music examples that are still lacking as soon as they have been set, so that, as already mentioned once before, I am in a position to check them against the originals before I leave for my Summer holidays.1 With kind regards, © Translation Ian D. COMMENTARY: FOOTNOTES: 1 Schenker first asks in CA 25, May 25, 1906, to have all of the proofs to the end of Part II (i.e. the end of Harmonielehre ) in time for him to finish correcting them by the end of June, when he intends to leave for the South Tyrol; he raises the matter again in CA 27, June 4, asking at least for proofs of the music examples so that he can check them against his score library. In OJ 9/31, [9], June 5, Cotta distinguishes between those examples that are set within the text, which they expect imminently, and those that are not, which they expect in early July. It would appear that by “text” S refers to the former category—i.e. second proofs of all the text matter complete with music examples on location. SUMMARY: © Commentary, Footnotes, Summary Ian D.
