Sehr geehrter Herr Direktor:

Dear Director,

I have received news from Germany of a quite extraordinary article about my works by Halm, unfortunately without any indication as to place of publication.1 Since I take for granted that you have already received a copy of this article, I would ask you once again (I asked once before, in the Summer) to let me have it on loan for one-to-two days. It is of great importance to me to see what the man who occupies so leading a position has written: this could easily be more crucial than anything that has been written up to now.

With grateful thanks in advance,
Yours truly,
[ sign’d: ] H Schenker

COMMENTARY:
Format: printed postcard, holograph addresses recto, holograph message and signature verso
Sender address: Vienna III, Reisnerstraße 38
Recipient address: Vienna I, Karlsplatz 6

FOOTNOTES:

1 Perhaps August Halm, “Heinrich Schenker,” Die Freie Schulgemeinde, October 1, 1917, preserved in S’s scrapbook, OC 2/p.53. In his earlier request (WSLB 288, July 8, 1917), S gave the location as „his [Halm’s] journal (Verlag Diederich, Jena) “without citing the title; perhaps by this point S has forgotten this information. However, the item in S’s scrapbook is said to be a “biographical essay” rather than a review.

SUMMARY:
S repeats his request of July 8 that Hertzka lend him Halm's recent article.
