Academic Affairs
Overview
The Office for Academic Affairs for the Arts and Sciences is responsible for faculty affairs and staffing for academic departments in the Arts and Sciences. In addition to advising the Executive Vice President for Arts and Sciences on matters affecting the faculty, the office advises department chairs, center and institute directors, individual faculty, and administrators on policies and procedures affecting the faculty. The office oversees faculty searches, recruitment, appointments for all officers of instruction and research, as well as leaves, reviews and promotion of faculty. In addition, the office manages the Instructional Budget Statement process, the faculty salary process, the academic review process, and administers the Faculty of Arts and Sciences procedure for student grievances related to the professional misconduct of faculty. The office coordinates a number of faculty committees, including the Academic Review Committee, Faculty Development Committee, Standing Committee on Language Lecturers, and the Grievance Committee.
Faculty will find useful information on a wide range of topics in the Provost’s Faculty Handbook.
