Equipment
Our lab has three epi-fluorescence microscopes with EM-CCD cameras suitable for single molecle imaging at temperatures from approximately 100 to 400K. We also have a confocal reflectance microscope coupled to a rheometer, allowing for simultaneous structural and mechanical characterization of samples. We have also built a multi-model solvent vapor annealing chamber for in situ or in operando solvent vapor annealing and simultaneous fluorescence imaging with single molecule sensitivity.
If you have a project that could benefit from use of instruments in our laboratory, please contact us at [email protected].
Educational Supplements
Cells and Gels for Elementary School Classrooms
Two powerpoints are available for download below. These may form the basis for lessons related to some of the basic science studied in the Kaufman Group. One lesson is on cells and, in particular, cell motility. The other is on soft matter, with a focus on gels including collagen. These lessons include ideas for hands-on activities and experiments and may be tuned for students in K - 5, with different emphasis for different age groups. Supplementary documents in the form of Word documents to help lead discussion can be provided upon request. Questions, comments, ideas for new educational supplements, and pictures of you using these lessons with your students are welcome! Email me here
