of the matter is that the majority of inmates in our prisons are blacks and Hispanics. Fifty per cent of them are black, twenty-five percent of them are Hispanics. And this is what he said, and the fact is that people who are brought to courts and convicted and sentenced in our criminal justice system are for the most part minorities. As a social scientist, I can understand that. I've written about it in the Op Ed page of the TIMES. I wrote a piece on the Goetz case, in which I didn't pay any attention to Goetz. You know, I talked about the determinants of crime among teen-agers and got a lot of response. Fifty per cent of the responses were giving me hell for saying that you've got to expect minority teen-agers to have a higher percentage of crime as long as their unemployment situation is what it is and as long as the schools are as inferior as they are, and as long as the-- but again, you know, the reaction of my critics was, see, there he goes again over-simplifying, in that crime doesn't come from poverty. Well, it probably comes from genes then, you see.

Well, anyway-- one of the interesting things to me about the discussion of anti-Semitism among blacks is that it is rarely associated with the discussion of anti-blackism among whites and Jews. And I just happen to believe that one is as stupid as the other. I think that being anti-black is as stupid as being anti-Semitic. Being anti-Semitic is as stupid as being anti-black. But you see where I am. I was going to say “out there in left field”, but I'm probably not even in the ball park. Except that
