Was that a function of this tension over the Vietnam reporting?

Heiskell:

No, I remember being involved in that argument. But that argument, as I recall, started well before. And I made the argument that you had to have a by-line in the cultural areas.

Q:

The back of the book.

Heiskell:

Yes. Because I said, “I want to know who thinks this play is good or not, and to have anonymity is bad.” And I think we did start with by-lines in the back of the book and then gradually it moved on and on until finally it became by-lines everywhere where you had the name of the writer and, “assisted by,” and so on, so on.
