Q:

The telephone? Special telephone?

Heiskell:

No, no. The bomb thing. This is for him to give the signal to--

Q:

To communicate with Norad--with--

Heiskell:

To shoot--

Q:

--with the strategic air--

Heiskell:

Yeah, to shoot off the missiles. That black bag. The next morning he took us around again. One more tour to where his family, or where her family came from; a little old house that was being maintained sort of as a museum. And it had a crank telephone, old fashioned crank telephone there. And he said, “All right Andrew why don't you use the phone.” Well, I said, “Fine.” So I cranked-“WHITE HOUSE” [laughter] went the voice on the other end. So you see the act. The Pedernales is beautiful by the way. The river is just a lovely little spot that they have there.

Q:

What other pressure did he bring to bear that you recall, either on you, or on Donovan, or the White House correspondent, anything in particular come to mind?

Heiskell:

Nope.
