Q:

[laughs] And go back.

Heiskell:

--go back and interview so and so. It was absolutely incredible. And we really did work twenty hours a day.

Q:

This was the Republican convention.

Heiskell:

Yes.

Q:

Did you interview Dewey?

Heiskell:

I think so. I think we interviewed just about everybody. We got very good reviews. We were considered--John Crosby said that we did by far the best job. Absolutely stunned me! [laughs] We had a ball. I kept liquor in the place, which was against NBC laws. We got on fine with the NBC people, who seemed to be perfectly happy to have somebody to boss them around--

Q:

Was Luce at the convention?

Heiskell:

Yes, but like the guys from NBC. You know, he came to the studio and looked at it, said, “Gee, isn't that interesting!” [laughs] He didn't participate in this.

Q:

Do you remember the LIFE gaff on Dewey, in that election?
