Frawley, who was a Democratic Senator. He came from some New York City district - I don't know which one. He was one of the most picturesque people that I ever saw in politics. He came the nearest to being the cartoonist's delight and the cartoonist's ideal of a representation of a wrong-headed kind of politician. He was very large and florid. He had a large bay window that stuck out. I don't think I ever saw him without a plaid waistcoat on. The waistcoat was not checked even, but bold plaids - great big plaids, made of good cloth and well tailored. It was an expensive job. He always wore good-looking clothes, but on the loud side with this loud plaid waistcoat. He wore two or three yards of gold watch chain with great charms dropping from it, draped across from one waistcoat pocket to the other - great quantities of watch chain. He wore two or three rings on his hand. One was diamonds, flashing. He always wore a bright pink shirt. This was before the days of the sport shirt. He must have had them made to order. The pink shirt was not in circulation, but he wore a pink shirt. He wore this rather lowcut plaid waistcoat so that the shirt showed. He always wore a larger than usual bow tie - a peculiarly large one. It must have been made to order. In my memory of it, it was navy blue with large white polka dots. It was extremely loud.
