had it. He had lots of jewelry, lots of rings - seal rings, diamond rings and other kinds. He had a great shock of hair which was cut in a coiffure that emphasized the length of it and the thickness of it around the top of the neck and face, which was very large and florid.

He had a very bad reputation. The Sullivans were beloved although they had a bad reputation. Ben Marsh used to say about them that if they hadn't been born in Tammany they would have been great statesmen and leaders, because they had those good qualities. Nobody thought Frawley had good qualities. He was rough. When he rose to speak he was very ungrammatical - very. The King's English was regularly murdered. He used very rough language. He was generally badly thought of.

However, I had become acquainted with him. After all, a vote was a vote so far as I was concerned. I wanted his vote for my bills. I knew he wouldn't vote unless the “orgnazshun” wanted it. Still I didn't want him to be opposing it in the organization, so I was on good terms with him.

I came into the Capitol one day. It was in mid-summer and very hot. It probably was in August because it was close to the end of everything. They almost had nervous breakdowns over this. They just couldn't bear what they had launched -
