Artists and the Archive: Dianne Smith and Curator Souleo
Video screening and conversation: Thursday, July 13, 6 –8pm

Curated by Souleo, independent curator and Manager of Public Programs, Newark Museum

The Schomburg Center is pleased to partner with Columbia University's new Uptown initiative, highlighting artists in upper Manhattan and Harlem, to debut the extraordinary new multimedia project from Dianne Smith, curated by Souleo. An as yet untitled piece, Smith juxtaposes images of Harlem culled from the Schomburg Center collections with photographs she took of the neighborhood over the past 20 years. The result is a beautiful montage that blends video, visual graphics, and motion pictures that tell the story of Harlem's past, present, and future, its landscape, culture, and people. Smith will join us with Souleo for this art opening and remarks in our Langston Hughes Lobby, which will be followed by a small reception.
