Clinical programs:

1. Diagnostic & Evaluation Clinic is located on CHONY 6 North. They accept referrals from pediatricians for psychiatric evaluations ONLY (i.e. they do not provide ongoing treatment).

Contact Monica Espinoza @ 212-305-0924 to schedule a screening phone interview for your patient prior to the full evaluation. Following the evaluation, your patient may be referred to any one of the following disorder-specific treatment clinics, also part of the outpatient service of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry. During the CAN psychiatry transition, email Sarabjit Singh (child psychiatrist) @ [email protected] with clinical questions, or Ramonita @ [email protected] to refer a patient to CHONY psychiatry:

Children's Anxiety & Depression Clinic provides treatment for children who are already diagnosed with anxiety and depressive disorders by one of the Pediatric Psychiatry services listed here, and require on-going treatment
Consultation Liasion Clinic accepts referral from patients with medical problems who may have a psychiatric component to their disease or presentation. Dr. Jonathan Slater directs these services for in-patients, and out-patient services were added in 2001.
Disruptive Behaviors Disorders Clinic provides treatment for children already diagnosed with disruptive behavior disorders (ADHD, oppositional defiant disorder) by one of the Pediatric Psychiatry services listed here.
Special Needs Clinic is located on VC-4 and provides evaluations and treatment for children affected by HIV. Contact Sheila Ryan RN for a referral @ 212-305-7257.
Developmental Neuropsychiatry Program provides diagnosis and treatment for behavioral and emotional problems in children and adolescents with developmental disabilities such as mental retardation, autism and pervasive developmental disorders, and other neurological conditions in children and adolescents such as epilepsy.

2. Integrated Mental Health Program (IMP), consists of part-time psychologists and psychiatrists located onsite at most ACNC clinics for consultations, psychiatric evaluations and short-term treatment (6 months or less). For simple behavioral health issues, patients referred to IMP will be diagnosed, stabilized and returned to the primary care pediatric provider for ongiong management, with consultation as needed by the onsite psychiatrist or psychologist. Referrals should be made only for those patients who are not in crisis or in need of long-term management. Click here for provider information at each ACN site.

3. The Comprehensive Emergency Service (CPEP) previously available for care of children on an emergent basis is now closed. Patients ages less than or equal to 19 years of age (up to their 20th birthday) who are in need of emergent psychiatric care should be sent to the Pediatric ED, and they will be seen by the Psychiatry team in the ED. There is a child psychiatry attending on call 24 hours/day, who may be paged at x 81350 to discuss cases. Should your patient require admission, the Psychiatry team in the ED will refer to inpatient psychiatry wards throughout NYC. If there is no bed available, and it is a weekend, the patient may be admitted to the medicine service until Monday, and the Psychiatry team will touch base and write orders with the residents on call in house.

4. Elementary School-Based Mental Health Program provides evaluations and treatment within school served by the program.

Research programs:

1. Child & Adolescent Psychiatry Evaluation Service (CAPES) - is a research program that also provides complete psychiatric evaluation including psycho-educational testing, and referrals. Click here for a complete brochure with contact information.
