Aurélien Couput

Aurélien was born and raised in France, where he graduated from the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris and received an MFA from the Haute École d'Art et de Design in Geneva. In his work, Aurélien uses photographic images of historical and, at times, tragic or controversial events that have taken place in the U.S. He distorts, edits and omits elements from the original images in a way that challenges the viewer's perception of the event. Aurélien received the Prix de la Foire International de Dessin (FID) in Paris, the Raymond Weil International Photography Prize, and the 8th LVMH Young Artists' Award. Most recently, he was selected for the New American Paintings MFA Annual #99. His work has been exhibited in New York, Paris, Germany, Switzerland, and Spain.
