general, doing well. Society seemed to be in good shape. He died just as the cities started to burn up, as the drug scene took over, as Vietnam became the albatross around the country's neck. Q:

Do you have any more notes on Luce?

Heiskell:

No, I think, no--[pauses].

Q:

Perhaps, just one more question about him. Who do you think were the people who were influential on him, on his life?

Heiskell:

On him?

Q:

Yes.

Heiskell:

[Reinhold] Niebuhr.

Q:

Reinhold Niebuhr?

Heiskell:

Reinhold Niebuhr. John Foster Dulles. McCarthy--Mac Arthur. [laughs]

Q:

Mac Arthur.
