would guess that they discuss this subject a lot. She writes on it; she teaches it; and so on so on.

Q:

We had talked about the power or, shall we say--seems lack of power--of the overseers. What was the real authority of the Corporation, and did that change in the time you were there? Sounds like it had--from what you said--for one, the authority to hire and fire the president of the university. Is that correct?

Heiskell:

Yes.

Q:

What other direct--after it would have these meetings, twice a month, what was its authority? What could it do?

Heiskell:

Nothing; nothing. We only do it through the president, really. We only act through the president.

Q:

So the Corporation advises the president?

Heiskell:

Yes.

Q:

And the only power the Corporation has over the president is that it can fire the president?

Heiskell:

Yes. Yes, well--you know, if the president found himself at odds with the Corporation on a continuing basis, there would be a problem.
