Q:

“See It Now.”

Stanton:

What?

Q:

“See It Now.”

Stanton:

No, I'm talking Ed Murrow on the news.

Q:

Ed Murrow on the news. Oh, okay.

Stanton:

At 7:45 on Monday through Friday. That was radio only. And he didn't -- it wasn't a great success as far as his audience ratings were concerned. Ed did a very good job and covered the news beautifully at 7:45, but there were other broadcasters on other networks than Ed had at 7:45.

“See It Now” was a different thing entirely. That was an outgrowth of something that Friendly and Murrow did on “Hear It Now,” on record. And “Hear It Now” was then translated into pictures and became a very important news and public affairs program. But I don't believe and I -- if anybody ever cares, they'd better check the facts -- but I don't believe it ever took its time period. By taking its time period, I simply mean that during the half hour it was on the air, I don't believe it had the number-one spot in terms of audience. I believe it was the second to what NBC had on at that time. But that aside, it was a distinguished series and Ed and Fred deserve all the credit in the world for that. It was their invention, so to speak.
