So I enjoyed every minute of it. It took time. And I don't think my wife ever has forgiven me for doing it. But I don't believe I was ever able to persuade her to even go see it, because it did take an awful lot of weekends away from the little time we had, and selfishly, I just found it an invigorating and stimulating association and it kept me sober and kept me interested in things outside of CBS.

Q:

Were there times during that period when you were tempted by the success of this project to re-enter academia?

Stanton:

Oh, no.

Q:

Or to take any job outside of --

Stanton:

Never. You couldn't have pried me loose from CBS with a crowbar.

Q:

You were in love with --

Stanton:

Because that was the most fascinating job in the world. For all its sores and for all the difficulties, it was just an unusually wonderful opportunity. I'm going to break, if I may, and go into this little office and make a phone call and then I'll --
