I haven't been out there now for a couple of years, but I suspect that it's a place that a lot of people would like to use as a place to hold a meeting, and we didn't -- I don't know how many conferences are held there now, but certainly word spread very quickly that this was not only a beautiful location, but --

Q:

So, were you inundated with applications every year? Is that what happened? People wrote you and said, Please let me in --

Stanton:

Oh, sure. Everybody wanted to --

Stanton:

It was a lush appointment to begin with, and if you were going to recharge your batteries and had a year to do it in, there are few places that I would choose to go to other than --

So at the time this was formed, was there anything like it in the United States?

Stanton:

Well, you've got the Center for Advanced Study at Princeton in the physical sciences, which is an entirely different operation. I'm sure there are others. Nothing in the social sciences that I know of. And I had the best people on the board from the social sciences. You know, when you think of the stature of Paul Buck from Harvard and Clark Kerr, people of that kind, you had the cream of the crop.
