The
Beaconhouse School System
The Beaconhouse group is an
international private school system with over 165,059 students
in eight countries. It is the largest education system of its
kind in the world.
As a global network, Beaconhouse aims to give students a quality
education and to prepare engaged citizens who shape not only the
communities they live in, but also the wider world. Students
study in a range of systems, including Montessori, Reggio Emilia,
and the O and A levels, and enroll in either the group flagship
programme – Beaconhouse School System, with 75,652 students – or
its parallel system of franchise schools – The Educators, with
85,573 students.
Opening with the Lesanges Montessori Academy in 1975,
Beaconhouse School System has now grown into an international
company with schools in the following countries: Bangladesh,
Malaysia, Oman, Pakistan, Philippines, Thailand and the United
Kingdom.
Beaconhouse's contributions to education were internationally
recognized in 1996 when the World Bank Group, in its first ever
investment in private education, financed the construction of
several new Beaconhouse campuses. At that point, Beaconhouse had
already started collaborating with institutions worldwide.
One example was the in-house teacher training programme
established in 1993 with the help of Bradford University in the
UK. Today, this full fledged programme trains teachers across
the group, some at universities in the UK, and others in-house.
So, with its rigorous standards which insist on up to date
teaching skills and its range of challenging programmes, the
Beaconhouse School System brings success within the reach of
every student.
Training
Beaconhouse has established a
comprehensive in-house training programme in collaboration with
several UK universities.
The training department works with University College Plymouth
St. Mark & St. John to offer teachers two certificates: the
Certificate in Professional Education and the Post Graduate
Certificate in Professional Development. Teachers can earn a
master’s at Leeds Metropolitan University.
Curriculum
Beaconhouse students study in a
range of educational programmes depending on their location,
national laws and school requirements. The Beaconhouse School
System has also developed its own internal curriculum modeled on
Scotland's curriculum and on the UK's National Curriculum.
Curricula in Beaconhouse are split along the following lines:
1. Early Years (Nursery and pre-nursery)
2. Primary (Grades 1-5)
3. Secondary (Grades 6-13)
Evaluation
Beaconhouse emphasizes
curricular and school evaluations. The School System conducts a
through curricular review every five years to update the
in-house curriculum.
At the same time, Beaconhouse schools are evaluated by teams
sent from the head and the regional offices. These evaluations
focus on many aspects, including teaching, curriculum
instruction, extra-curricular activities, libraries and
facilities, general management. parent relationships, enrolment
and recruitment, staff development, finances, community
involvement, resources, career guidance, and technology.
