What was he studying?

Stanton:

Well, at the time he started--

What was he interested in?

Stanton:

He ultimately became head of the German department at Wesleyan University in Connecticut. And took his PhD at Wisconsin in German. But I knew none of that when I was attracted to him in school.

I first knew him in a boys' camp when I was very young. And we didn't live in the same part of the city. We didn't see much of each other except in the latter part of my high school period. Somehow when he selected Ohio Wesleyan that rang a bell for me. I did not want to leave the state of Ohio. I wanted to remain relatively close to Dayton. Not for family purposes but because I was in love with a girl who lived there. And she was going to school in Ohio.

Q:

And just for the record, can we say her name?

Stanton:

Her name was Stepehenson, or is Stephenson. S.t.e.p.h.e.n.s.o.n. Sarah Ruth, goes by the name of Ruth. I ultimately married her.

We had our first movie together, I guess, when we were about twelve. She didn't go to the same school I went to. I saw her only infrequently because of my work schedule and the fact
