3rd Annual Biotechnology Networking Social

February 25, 2013

Our chapter hosted a networking social for graduate students interested in working in industry. This event was held in Lerner Hall at Columbia University on February 25, 2013. Company representatives from Becton, Dickinson and Company, Unilever, Philips, and Johnson & Johnson attended, in addition to Masters students, Ph.D. students, and postdocs from Biomedical Engineering, Biotechnology, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Chemical Engineering.

Careers in Biomedical Science and Engineering Panel

November 29, 2012

In collaboration with GraBME, EMBS, and the Columbia Biotechnology Association, our chapter hosted a panel discussion featuring six speakers with varied experiences in biomedical and related industries. Panelists discussed their perspectives on careers and career paths in industry. This event was held in the International Affairs Building at Columbia University on November 29, 2012 and was attended by over 70 people.




SFB Industrial Speaker Series: Robert Hung, M. Eng., Dedham Group

December 12, 2012

Robert Hung gave a talk about his career path from an undergraduate engineer to becoming a partner in a life science consulting firm. Various consulting careers in the life science industry and qualities that companies look for in a successful employee were also discussed. This event was attended by over 30 people.




Columbia Engineering Experience Lab Visit

October 15, 2012

Our chapter hosted over 20 high-ability, underrepresented students interested in Columbia Engineering. We introduced them to the exciting field of regenerative tissue engineering and the research that is current going on in Columbia BME. Demonstrations were given on scaffold fabrication and the use of bioreactors in tissue engineering.
