AMBULATORY BLOCK
The overarching goals are as stated in training overview.
This month will focus on Entitlements, Early Childhood Support,
and Children with Special Health Care Needs.
Entitlements:
By the end of this month pediatric residents will have knowledge
of entitlements, what our patient population is eligible for,
and how to guide families to access them.

Early Childhood Support:
By the end of this month pediatric residents will:
• understand the importance of early childhood support in
optimizing child and family health.
• learn about the benefits of breastfeeding and be able
to support a family who chooses to do so.
• learn about community-based program and federal entitlements
that support families of young children.
• learn how the home environment and the family’s
culture has an impact on a child’s health and well being.

Caseworker
Children With Special Health Care Needs (CSHCN):
This month is an opportunity for residents to start learning about
issues affecting children with special health care needs and their
families. By the end of this month, pediatric residents will:
• gain insight into the home and family life of a child
with CSHCN and learn how to incorporate this knowledge into patient/family
encounters with CSHCN children.
• learn about facilities that take care of this population.
