Financial Aid
Students admitted to the Ph.D. program in Spanish are offered five years of financial support, which includes tuition remission, student health insurance, and a stipend ($22,000 in 2008-09). Continued support is contingent on maintaining good academic standing as defined both by the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences (GSAS) and by the department. Students who enter with advanced standing, i.e., those who have done graduate work in the discipline previously, are guaranteed four years of financial support.
The program includes also three years of undergraduate teaching of language and culture courses. Financial support as described above is renewed yearly on the basis of academic and pedagogical performance. See also financial aid information from the GSAS, the GSAS Financial Aid Handbook, and information on financing your graduate education.
Furthermore, the department and the GSAS award funds competitively on a yearly basis to students who are invited to deliver a paper in a scholarly conference.
