Karen Benezra

Assistant Professor

Karen Benezra earned her B.A. in Languages and Literature from Bard College and Ph.D in Romance Studies from Cornell University. Her research focuses on Latin American visual art, literature and cultural theory of the twentieth century as well as questions of sublimation, social form, subjectivation, hegemony and labor. She is working on a book project tentatively titled A Semblance of Politics: The Dematerialization of Art and Labor that examines the articulation of the avant-garde within visual art and design in the 1960s and 70s and its relation to the emergence of the late capitalist social link. She currently serves as a corresponding editor for ARTMargins.
