Credit Information

Astronomy/Astrophysics
The Universe semester at Biosphere 2 will satisfy a majority of the Astronomy/Astrophysics major requirement and all but one of the required courses for the Astronomy concentration.

Major Course Equivalencies:

BP 2603 = 3rd semester of intro requirement (C. 2601) of Physics

BP 3461 = counts as either one of the two 3000 level Physics or Astronomy

BP 2003/4 = equivalent of 2001/2 – counts for 2000 level Astronomy

Research – credit with departmental approval

 

Concentration Equivalencies:

Prerequisite: Calculus

Chemistry/Environmental Chemistry
The Earth semester at Biosphere 2 will satisfy some of the Environmental, Biochemistry and Chemistry major requirements. If attending the Biosphere Earth semester as a second semester sophomore Chemistry major, you will get credit for your third term physics course.

Environmental Chemistry Major
course equivalencies:

Earth semester:

3 required courses = 11 points

BP 2603 = Astronomy/Physics credit

Research – credit with departmental approval

Chemistry and Biochemistry Major
course equivalencies:

Earth Semester:

4 – 9 points total

Students must work with department

Research must be taken as 4 points in order to get major credit.


Environmental Biology (E3B )
The Earth semester at Biosphere 2 will satisfy up to 16 Environmental Biology credits of requirements in areas II and III of the major, which consist of the following courses

Environmental Biology Major course equivalencies:

W3120 (Earth Systems Science) = Introductory environmental science sequence: EESC V2100, V2200

W3150 (Conservation Biology) = Introductory biology sequence: ENVB W2001, W2002

W3200 (The Human Role) = Environmental policy/economics (upper division curriculum)

W 3910 (Planetary Management Seminar and Lab) + W3997 (Independent Research)

= Biology Laboratory course (upper division curriculum)

Students must consult with department concerning research project


Earth and Environmental Science (DEES)
The Earth semester at Biosphere 2 will satisfy several of the Earth and Environmental Science major requirements. Upon completion of the Earth semester at Biosphere 2, you will have fulfilled more than half of the credits for the Earth and Environmental Science Concentration.

Major course equivalencies:

Earth semester will fulfill the following courses: V2100, V2200, and V2300

Research credit with departmental approval

Concentration course equivalencies:

Earth Semester will fulfill: V2100, V2200, and V2300.

*Upon completion of the Earth Semester at Biosphere 2, you will have fulfilled more than half of the credits for the Earth and Environmental Science Concentration.
