As the primary text source, I am using kulliyaat-e miir , jild-e avval , mukammal chhih diivaan-e ;Gazaliyaat , ed. by :zill-e ((abbaas ((abbaasii , corrected and augmented by a;hmad ma;hfuu:z under the supervision of S. R. Faruqi (New Delhi: qaumii kaunsil baraa-e furo;G-e urduu , 2003). IF YOU ARE AT ALL SERIOUS ABOUT MIR, you'll want to buy this new, gold-standard edition of vol. 1 (which contains all the ghazals) of the Kulliyat before it goes out of print. I suggest emailing <custserv@dkagencies.com> and ordering it. If you're a real fanatic, you can ask for the remarkable deal they gave me: three copies of the paperback edition (870 p.), air mail, for about $44. The FIRST STAGE of the project consisted of indexing all 1,916 ghazals by first verse in two different ways, and providing a little basic information about each ghazal (number of verses; meter; which verses have been included in Shi'r-e shor-angez). This work is now complete, in a DRAFT form with no doubt a number of errors. The SECOND STAGE of the project is just beginning. I will basically
be using the verses from the intikhab and sharh done by S. R. Faruqi,
and will be deciding how best to present some of his commentary, and
some of my own. Access will be available through the main ghazal index
below, and also through a special *Commentary
index*. NOTE: this work has not yet gone very far. The basic reason
is that I'm concentrating on Ghalib's unpublished ghazals for the present.
But by summer 2010 I expect to have much more time to devote to Mir. |
